The short answer

Rista by DotPe is the stronger choice for multi-brand, multi-channel operations that need channel-level menus, branch-level stock with wastage and theft records, reservations and two-way aggregator integration. Ecomeal is the better fit for independent restaurants, cafés and small chains that want simple billing, a synced QR menu, built-in customer segments and AI that writes daily deals for slow dishes, at a published price of ₹333 a month + GST billed yearly.

Rista is a cloud POS that DotPe acquired in 2021 (YourStory). It's now sold as "Rista POS by DotPe." Ecomeal is our own product. Below we compare them on the same criteria. Everything about Rista comes from its official product page, checked on 15 October 2026 (Rista by DotPe).

Stock control: Rista leads today

If inventory is your main reason for buying software, Rista has the edge right now. Its page describes tracking item supply at channel, branch and brand level, an item-level ledger with costs, and recording damage, wastage and theft. It also mentions automatic material-based stock-outs, which means items can go unavailable when ingredients run low.

Ecomeal's ingredient-level inventory and waste product, Wastello, is in development. Today, Ecomeal lets you switch any menu item off when it runs out, and it disappears from both the POS and the QR menu instantly. That's useful at 9 pm when the mutton is over, but it's not a full stock ledger.

Questions to ask Rista in the demo

Which inventory features are in my plan? Does stock deduct by recipe automatically? How are wastage and theft entries approved? What does a variance report look like for one outlet for one week?

Multi-outlet visibility: different philosophies

Rista is designed around central control: central item status, multi-brand invoices, call-centre reservations across outlets. It suits a brand with a head-office team.

Ecomeal gives owners a group view: every outlet's revenue, orders and status together, the top outlet, the average per outlet, open and close history for each branch, and a one-tap outlet switcher in the top bar. It's built for the owner who has three outlets and checks them from their phone between supplier calls.

Reports vs recommendations

Rista highlights kitchen efficiency metrics, filters by channel and date, and recurring reports with permission controls. That's solid reporting.

Ecomeal's angle is different. Its dashboard compares sales, orders and average bill against the same time yesterday, picks the dish of the week from what actually sold, and AI Menu Insights names your best seller, peak hour and one move to make today. Then AI Up Sell goes a step further: each afternoon it finds slow-selling dishes from the last seven days, writes a discount or combo for each with a plain-language reason, and puts it live on the POS until 10 pm.

Reports vs recommendations

Rista's reports will tell you exactly how your Tuesday went. Ecomeal will try to make your Wednesday better. Ideally you'd want both, and some owners do pair a strong inventory system with a POS that sells.

Billing and CRM

Both handle everyday billing. Rista adds WhatsApp bills, multi-brand invoices and partial payments for credit orders, which matter if you run several brands or bill corporate clients on credit.

On customers, Rista offers segmentation, deals at branch or business level, and tier-based loyalty. Ecomeal offers repeat rate, average spend, walk-in spend, loyalty tiers from Standard to Platinum, one-tap lists of new, VIP, at-risk and inactive guests, and customer export. Both cover the basics; Rista's deal targeting is broader for multi-brand businesses.

Pricing

Rista doesn't publish pricing on its product page; it leads to a free demo. Ecomeal Lite is ₹500 a month + GST, or ₹333 a month + GST billed yearly (₹3,999 + GST). For Rista, ask for a written yearly quote per outlet, including any integrations and hardware.

Which should you choose?

Your situation Better fit
Several brands from one kitchen Rista
Aggregators are a big share of orders Rista
Inventory and wastage tracking needed now Rista
Reservations and queue management Rista
Single outlet or 2-5 outlets, owner-run Ecomeal
You want help selling slow dishes, automatically Ecomeal
You want a published, low monthly price Ecomeal

Scenario: which would you pick?

Scenario 1: Three brands, one kitchen, 75% delivery

You run a biryani brand, a rolls brand and a desserts brand from a single kitchen in a delivery-dense neighbourhood.

Pick Rista. Multi-brand invoicing, channel-level menus and two-way aggregator integration are exactly what you need. Ecomeal doesn't integrate aggregators yet.

Scenario 2: One café, mostly walk-ins, good regulars

You run a 40-seat café with a strong morning crowd and a slow afternoon.

Pick Ecomeal. Fast billing, a synced QR menu, loyalty tiers with an at-risk list for regulars who've gone quiet, and AI Up Sell to fill the afternoon with combos. Published price, simple set-up.

Scenario 3: Four dine-in outlets, owner-managed, inventory worries

You run four family restaurants and suspect stock is leaking at one of them.

It depends on priority. If stock control is urgent, Rista's branch-level stock with wastage and theft records helps now. If growing sales per outlet is the priority, Ecomeal's group view, open/close history and AI deals do more. Some owners pair a dedicated inventory tool with Ecomeal's POS.
